| What can a
mentor do for you? -Sponsorship: Provide connections that will support your career advancement. -Impart Knowledge and Experiences: Share knowledge about specific jobs, career paths, organizations, industries, and business topics, that will help you your goals. -Support forward progress: Stimulate growth and preparation to move ahead by making positive recommendations. -Give Feedback: Provide you with perspective and advice on your career path. -Facilitate Networking: Serve as a resource for you and connect you to other professionals. What does my mentor expect from me? - Attend Mentee Training in October - Meet with your mentor approximately 4 hours a month - Know Your Stuff: Research the mentors background, industry and company. Approach your meetings with specific goals in mind, create an agenda if necessary and be prepared for each meeting. Be prepared to talk about current news events and how they may be impacting your industry. - Take Ownership: Be responsible for moving the relationship forward. Realize your goals for the program by staying on task and keeping your mentor informed of your progress. Having a mentor is a privilege -- work hard to leverage the opportunity! - Follow-Through: Invite feedback and suggestions from your mentor. Follow through on requests from your mentor. - Be Professional: Be on time, dress appropriately, and promptly return telephone calls and e-mails. Show appreciation and gratitude towards for your mentor. - Maintain Respect - Commit to Entire Program: Commit to actively participate in the 11-month program or 5 month spring program. Get Started! 1. Download the Mentor Application and E-mail to Serena Stickney by February 9, 2008 Or mail to: CSMAA, Mentoring Program, PO Box 1410, Golden CO 80402 2. Attend training on January 23, 2008; 7-8:30 p.m., Ben Parker Student Center. RSVP to Alison Wheelock. 3. Once matches are completed, establish contact with mentor and work out a schedule with him/her. 4. Attend the social with your mentor at the end of the semester. |
