| Dignitaries,
Educational Community Welcome the Bickarts Colorado Lt. Gov.
Joe Rogers
"It has been said that the best science is open to experience
and begins with romance
the idea that anything is possible.
Since opening its doors over 125 years ago, the Colorado School of Mines has established a
reputation for generating great ideas.
It has emerged as an international model for engineering and applied science education.
Most importantly, the school produces well-rounded graduates capable of addressing complex
energy and environmental issues of the future graduates who believe that anything
is possible.
Dr. Bickarts distinguished career and national prominence will serve the school and
Colorado very well."
CSM Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty
Dr. John Trefny
"The Bickarts have joined the school in good health with
facilities, programs and people especially the people all stronger than ever
before.
Some of us have been privileged to serve under previous presidencies including those of
Guy and Becky McBride and George and Marge Ansell.
We have participated in the evolution of this great institution under their leadership.
We look forward to continued developments and the achievement of new levels of excellence
during the Bickarts tenure here.
And, Im sure that I speak for the entire Mines community in expressing our full and
enthusiastic support."
CSM Faculty Senate President
Dr. Samuel Romberger
"In general, faculty members have many concerns when it
comes to change.
Among those concerns is the level of interest the president will have in faculty issues
and problems.
Since coming to Mines, President Bickart has responded to those concerns by making a
concerted effort to meet with each faculty member individually, in groups, in departments,
and in his and Franis home.
This and other actions have suggested that he believes that the faculty has an important
role to play in the governance of Mines.
We have the confidence that President Bickart has the strong leadership to strengthen the
institution and its educational programs and to take us all into the next millennium."
CSM Student Body President
Ryan McDermed
"As a student, you hope and expect the president of your
school to not only exemplify morals, values, ethics, leadership and a level head, you also
hope and expect him to be a student advocate and friend.
These are certainly true of Dr. Bickart.
Throughout the semester, Dr. Bickart and Frani have taken time from their busy schedules
to welcome various student leaders into their home to listen to their thoughts and ideas
to understand their wants and needs from this institution.
I know, because I sat in their home and listened and talked about the various issues
concerning the student body, that he is a man who possesses all the characteristics a
student wants from a school president."
President, University of Northern Colorado
Former U.S. Senator from Colorado
Hank Brown
"The higher education institutions of the State of Colorado are
delighted to have a role in welcoming Dr. Bickart. We think he is an outstanding
representative of this great institution.
This institution sets the standard for the state and helps to establish our reputation
worldwide.
His background is one of not only being a distinguished scholar but also understanding the
needs of the world.
Your institution is one that sets the standard for the world.
We in Colorado are delighted to have someone to lead you who enhances that standard and
enhances the standard for the entire state."
CSM Alumni Association President

and we pledge that were going to work with him and his administration to continue to
enhance the reputation of this school."
