Colorado School of Mines campus hosted 400 freshmen and 450 parents in July as part of "Explore CSM." The program is designed to acquaint new students to the Schools campus, facultyand each other, as well as to give parents the opportunity to see where their son or daughter will be spending the next four years. Incoming students were introduced to life at CSM through studentfaculty panels which try to provide a realistic perspective of life at Mines and insights to the social and academic challenges students often face their first year on campus. Incoming freshmen were provided information about student groups and campus services during a lunch held at the Ben H. Parker Student Center. Parents also learned about services available to students on campus including the health center and career and academic services. The 1999 freshman class totals 560 students; 405 of them are residents of Colorado. Women make up 23% of the class and 3% are international students. In addition, 112 transfer students will attend Mines this fall. |
