McBride Honors Program Showcased at Scholarship Luncheon

The Oct. 22 Scholarship Luncheon in the Student Center Ballroom at Mines gave members of the Trustee Development Council an opportunity to meet the recipients of the members’ individual or corporate scholarships.

Collectively, members of the TDC have invested more than $1.5 million in endowed scholarship funds. In addition, several TDC members have generously supported the McBride Honors Program in Public Affairs.

Students from that Program made a presentation at the luncheon on their recent international study experiences in China.

Among those attending the luncheon were Barbara Olds, principal moderator of the McBride Honors Program, and Philippe Dunoyer, Program mentor and supporter.

Other Program endowments funded by TDC members are the Peter Janzen and George A. Berlin Endowed Fund, Irelan Family Endowment and Gerald W. Grandey Endowment.

Individual endowed scholarships represented at the luncheon were: Ralph E. Anderson, Lynll C. Champion, Stanley Dempsey, Leslie S. James, Gray Family Robert E. and Margaret A. McKee, Renewal Fund and Allan G. Provost.

Corporate scholarships represented were the Chevron, Phelps Dodge, Rio Algom, Unocal and Williams Companies Scholarships.

Endowed scholarship funds give Mines the financial edge in competing for top students in the region, the nation and the world.

Of the $8.4 million received in grants and scholarships last year, $1.4 million was given by individuals and organizations.
