| Ian Mackay is founder,
chairman and director of Red Rock Resources Ltd, an 18-year-old crude petroleum and
natural gas producing company in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Born in Saskatchewan, Dr. Mackay served as a pilot in the Canadian Armed Forces in World War 11 before coming to Mines. After earning his degree at CSM, he worked for Chevron Corporation as a seismologist. From 1962 to 1968, he was senior adviser for energy issues in the Finance Minister's Off ice of the Kuwaiti government. He then served from 1973 to 1979 as chief manager in the Oil and Gas Department for the Bank of Montreal. From 1980 to 1982, he was vice president of exploration for Rodeco Oil and Gas Ltd. In 1982, Dr. Mackay helped to settle a border dispute between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia and worked as an unofficial ambassador for Kuwait's rights during the Gulf War. He has been credited with helping to build Kuwait into a modern state. Since his days at CSM, Dr. Mackay has remained an enthusiastic supporter of the School. He has been a member of the LAIS visiting committee since 1992. He is a former memb 'er of the Global Systems visiting committee and has also served on the International Development Council during the RESOURCES campaign. He has been an active member of the Colorado School of Mines Alumni Association, having served on its board of directors from 1981 to 1989 and as a section leader of the Rocky Mountain District. He is currently a section coordinator for the Calgary District. Dr. Mackay received the Coolbaugh Memorial Award in 1988 for outstanding contributions by an alumnus. |
