CSM Freshmen Get a Fresh Coat of Paint

More than 550 students climbed up Mt. Zion in Golden on Monday, Aug. 19, each carrying a boulder to add to the hundred-foot "M-Blem" located 1,225 feet above CSM’s campus.

Tradition dictates that each freshman carry a 10-pound boulder up Mt. Zion (just north of Lookout Mountain), place it on the "M," then coat the "M-Blem," and typically themselves, with a fresh coat of whitewash.

The CSM "M-Blem" is the largest electronically lit school emblem in the world, measuring 104 feet by 107 feet and boasting more than 500 15-watt light bulbs.

The 2002-2003 freshman class statistics average ACT/SAT scores of 27/1230 average GPA is 3.63 and 55 percent are in the top 10 percent of their high school graduating classes.
