| How young are Young Alumni? For once, age is not a factor in our definition of young! Technically, young alumni are all Mines alumni who graduated in the past nine years. If you graduated between 1999-2007, welcome to our fast growing community of Colorado School of Mines Young Alumni! Young Alumni and The Mines Fund Perhaps you didn't realize it at the time, but not too long ago, when you were a student at Mines, The Mines Fund was working hard to ensure your alma mater's excellent, world-renowned reputation. Each year, thousands of alumni, friends, and parents generously contribute to The Mines Fund in order to continue the high quality education that we are known for. Last year, The Mines Fund raised over $1 million dollars! Mines Young Alumni are a big part of our success. In 2007, we had 260 Young Alumni participate in The Mines Fund, raising a total of $39,000. This total directly impacts the School's programs, affecting current students in the very same way you were affected while you were a student. Now that you're an alum, maybe you can return the favor! Participation, Participation Did you know that the number of Mines alumni who give back to the School each year directly affects our rankings in publications like U.S. News and World Report? It's true--the stronger the affinity with Mines, the better we rank. And it makes sense. The more alumni who give to The Mines Fund, the more scholarships we can offer, the nicer our campus will look, we can attract the best faculty, and many, many other factors that go into making Mines one of the best engineering and applied sciences schools in the country! 16% of our alumni made a contribution to Mines in 2007. This year, we hope to increase this number to 20%. We need your participation to do it. All gifts of any size make a difference!
With this in mind, we have created a special level of giving just for Young Alumni. If you have never heard of the President's Council, it is the School's most loyal group of donors who make gifts at a leadership level of $1,000 a year or more. We are giving Young Alumni the opportunity to be included in this prestigious community of donors at a more affordable level. Please refer to the chart to find the gift amount that corresponds with your graduation year. Members of the President's Council receive a commemorative CSM scarf or tie upon joining. They are also recognized in our yearly President's Council Directory and receive special updates from the President. Our President's Council members still have close ties to Mines and remain very connected with the School. We hope you will take advantage of the opportunity to join this elite group! You might not be a student anymore, but you will always be a Mines alum! The next time you receive a letter from Mines, don't throw it away. Likewise, when you receive a call from one of our 'DiggerDialers, take a few moments to talk to them. Both are very easy ways to learn more about what's going on at the School. Don't forget about that Mines degree you worked so hard to earn. Stay connected to Colorado School of Mines as you move ahead in life! Use our information update page to let us know when you've moved, changed jobs, gotten married, had a baby, or had any other major life changes. We will post any updates in Mines magazine.
